![]() The ‘Sharpen’ mode machine learning model will correct this softness without adding artifacts or halos. Unfortunately, not all lenses are tack sharp, especially when shooting wide open or with high megapixel cameras. These problems are lens softness, movement and missed focus. There are three different sharpening models, and these relate directly to the most common reasons images are unsharp or blurry at 100%. This can be annoying since even rendering the preview takes some computing. When Auto-update preview is turned on, ‘Sharpen AI’ will continually update the preview according to the changes you make. Although ‘Sharpen AI’ is optimized for Intel CPU and iGPU’s and you can get up to five times faster processing speeds Intel graphics card of the 6th generation and the higher, we don’t all have those. I should draw your attention to the Auto-update preview switch below the navigator. The navigator allows you to magnify your subject, always a splendid idea when applying sharpening. ![]() On your right-hand side, you’ll find the navigator and the process settings. You can also drag-and-drop images from the desktop or folder of your choice. It’s also possible to batch process files, either processing all images with the same settings or individually. Importing images in the standalone versionĬlick open and import single image or multiple images into ‘Sharpen AI’ standalone version. On your right you’ll find the application settings and the top bar includes other interesting features that we’ll talk about later. The main window is largely occupied by a preview of your selected image. The easiest way to see how ‘Sharpen AI’ works is through the application interface itself. Let’s have a look at the interface and go through all the features and functionality. It’s available as a standalone software product or a plugin for topaz Studio, Photoshop and Lightroom. They trained it with millions of images so it could learn two characteristics of detail versus noise. Topaz ‘Sharpen AI’ claims to be the first sharpening and shake reduction software that can tell the difference between detail and Noise. There are many plug-ins and methods for doing this, but Topaz labs have chosen the route of machine learning to get an advantage over competitors. There is also a need to sharpen images for resizing, for instance, for posting to Instagram. close it, rerun the appropriate on-line installer dmg which I have saved in my downloads folder, let it delete the old version and install the new one.As the screens of our PC’s, smartphones and tablets have gotten better and better over time, our image processing had to evolve too to adhere to these new standards. I ignore the request for my email address at the end and after closing and switching back to my standard use account, Topaz works fine and knows I am registered. close it, switch to my admin user account, and then update the software. ![]() from within Topaz App, I get the macOS prompt to authenticate with my admin user name and password, and somewhere in the download and install process I get a corruption error for the original installation (I think). If I try to update Topaz Studio 3, Sharpen AI, Denoise AI, etc. In my case, I normally run my iMac from a normal (non administrator) account. I am not sure if you are seeing the corruption error for the downloaded file or with the attempted upgrade. If you don't like a negative view I suggest you skip my posts. Me? I'm waiting until the software is user friendly. So the message to the OP is to either take a step back until Topaz gets the bugs sorted or ride along bugs and all until it is working. The simple fact that I'm trying to point out to the OP is that Topaz routinely releases software that isn't ready for the market. I point out a fact and you get all defensive with a personal attack that doesn't help anyone. This is how discussions go when someone is blinded by there own opinions. Good to know, but your opinion on the matter adds zero value to solving the OP's issue. If that's not your thing nothing wrong with that, but you really don't need to repeat your critique like a broken record every time there is a TS2 thread.įor the time being I'll be sticking with Studio. This may take a while and Mac users seem to have more issues than Windows users. If judged by the activity on the FB and forum pages there are probably hundreds, if not substantially more, users actively using the product while it matures. On the flip-side they have released updates on a weekly, and sometimes daily, basis (a new one last night along with new bugs). Features may be on the way but releasing it as a bare bones tool isn't what I would call smart marketing. Has more problems IMHO and seems a very limited piece of software at the moment.
